Hi,

Important note: This ONLY affects streaming services running on “UKSouth” – if you are streaming via any of our other servers then you are NOT affected, and you can disregard this message.

As you know from our previous message, one of our UK data centre providers has been having ongoing connectivity issues since Thursday of last week. Unfortunately, as we have seen this morning, they are still evidently no closer to resolving these issues.

We had already started work on a full replacement streaming cluster, and this has completed it’s testing phase, so we have decided that we will be moving all streaming services from the current UKSouth data centre to the new one this afternoon. We were hoping to be able to roll this change out more gradually and give more notice, however, it’s clear the current data centre simply cannot resolve the issues and we cannot justify any further delay.

As you can imagine, this is not a decision we have taken lightly, but it’s clearly essential to return us to a proper stable platform. We are incredibly sorry for the short notice, but it’s essential that we carry this work out immediately.

We have already pre-staged the main changes required to our infrastructure, so we will be making this change at 12:30 UTC TODAY.

Starting at approximately 12:30 today we will change the DNS entries for the UKSouth streaming servers to 87.117.222.91 and then within 10 minutes of that time we will force all traffic from the current servers to reconnect, which will cause them to reconnect to the new streaming server.

Because we are not changing any of the server names (only the IP address) this means that radio directories like TuneIn etc. will all work correctly after the change, so as long as you have followed our recommendations and registered your streams with the directories by name (not by IP address) then they will automatically connect to the new streaming cluster

You should not need to make ANY changes to your settings or encoder, the entire process should be automatic and when your encoder is disconnected from the old server it will then automatically reconnect to the new Encoder.

If your encoder cannot connect, please carry out the following steps:
1) Close the encoding software and re-open it and try again
2) If still unable to reconnect, restart your encoding PC
3) If still unable to connect, please contact us on +44 1482 350700 and press for Support, or email support@broadcastradio.com - We have our full team in the office today ready to assist if you need us.

If listeners contact you to say they cannot connect to your stream, ask them to wait 10 minutes and try again, and if still not able then to restart their devices.

Important note, particularly for Educational establishments: Some IT departments might have restricted OUTBOUND connections from your building, and you may find that your encoder cannot reconnect. If this is the case, please contact your IT Team and ask them to “whitelist” the names uksoutha.streaming.broadcast.radio and the ip address 87.117.222.91
